Delphinium – decoration of any garden
Delphinium is a wonderful decorative flower, the best garden decoration. Blue and blue delphiniums grew with me together, in one big group. This is the sky on earth and the sea on land! Like a sapphire, blue and blue flowers shimmer in the bright sun!
And once planted a royal lily nearby. It turned out a blue cloud in white lace. Fairy tale for real!
Maybe I used too many beautiful words when describing delphiniums, but this is my favorite flower. Now, for health reasons, I can no longer take care of my favorite flowers, and therefore I really want them to grow in other gardens and also please other people.
Delphinium is terry and simple. Landing near varietal delphiniums of simple ones, especially blue ones, should be excluded. They will pollinate other plants and the flowers will lose their beauty. And delphiniums come in a wide variety of colors. Its flowers are white, blue, pink, lilac, purple, blue. Some varieties have a white or black eye in the center of the flower.
Inflorescence occurs with good care from 70 to 100 cmhigh! This despite the fact that the height of the bushes of the plant itself sometimes reaches2 meters.
Planting a delphinium
The delphinium has been growing in one place for eight years. Then you can divide the bush and seat. Propagated, except for division, by cuttings (from a 4-year-old plant) and seeds.
If the seeds are sown in March, it will bloom in July-August.
The soil for planting should be clay-turf. Loves delphinium lime. Don’t plant too deep, the roots will rot.
In the fall, do not cut the stems. They are hollow at the delphinium, rainwater is poured into them, and the plants rot.
Do pruning only in the spring. It is good to water the bushes with lime mortar so that they do not get sick (2-3 liters per plant). In the spring, of course, it is necessary to apply dry mineral fertilizers, in the summer, during flowering, liquid ones.
To preserve the variety, it is better to propagate delphiniums by cuttings (in spring), by dividing the bush in autumn. When planting, you need to rinse the roots well in a solution of potassium permanganate.
By September 20, cut off all flower stalks, in whatever phase they are, by 20-30 cmabove the ground. And with the onset of stable cold weather, cover the plants with spruce branches. Delphinium is not afraid of frost, even the strongest, but does not tolerate winter thaws with strong temperature fluctuations. Spruce paws will help protect the delphinium from their dangerous effects.
In the spring, as soon as the snow melts on the spruce branches, remove it. At the end of April, loosen the ground around the plants and feed them with nitrogen fertilizers (preferably ammonium nitrate) -10 gper bucket of water – a liter for each bush. Mulch the ground around the plants with peat layer 2-3 cm.
It is necessary to spray the delphiniums 2-3 times during the summer with Bordeaux liquid or an infusion of garlic against powdery mildew, which plants are often affected by.
Bushes must be thinned out, leaving 5-7 shoots, and tied to stakes so that the wind does not break.
Of the white delphiniums, I recommend the varieties “Winter” and “Daughter of Winter”. The Daughter of Winter is especially beautiful. The plant has white double flowers, black stamens and a pale grayish middle with black veins.
Decorate your garden with delphiniums and enjoy the beauty.
