Flower garden in retro style
The first thing that comes to mind when remembering my grandmother and her dacha is, of course, how she cooked deliciously and her chic front garden. It is about those non-capricious flowers that grew at that time, and which did not need special care, unlike modern plants, we will talk in this article.
These flowers are called so because of their growth, which exceeds 1 meter. You can also find tall flowers 3 meters long.
The first flower is Rudbeckia dissected . It grows up to 2 meters in height. Its inflorescences have a bright yellow color and a terry surface. The flower is about 10 cm in diameter.
THIS PLANT LOVES THE SUN, AND CLAY SOIL CAN HARM IT
This flower does not require any special care, but its growth should be clearly controlled, because it can take up all the space. So take care to well limit its territory from other plants.
Very beautiful rudbeckia will look at the fence or any other tall building because of its height.
The second plant is Stockrose (Mallow) . Oddly enough, these are two different plants, although we always thought the opposite. Mallow height reaches up to 1.2 meters and, most often, it blooms for only one season. But the maximum height of Stockrose is 3 meters, and it is a wonderful background for other flowers.
Such flowers will look very good near walls, houses and hedges. This plant does not require any special care, the most important thing is that you cannot overfeed it.
In third place is Georgina . We all know what big flowers this plant has. They can reach up to 30 centimeters in diameter. A dahlia can grow up to 2.5 meters in height. For overwintering, this plant must be dug up and planted only after frost. The dahlia begins to bloom from mid-summer, and when the cold sets in, its aerial part dies off.
This flower is very fond of the sun, and it also grows well on wetlands. It is best to plant a plant near a building that will save it from drafts.
Next we’ll talk about Daylily . This is a very unusual plant, because the flowering period of its buds is one day. But due to the fact that this plant has many inflorescences that replace each other, we do not notice at all how short-lived they are.
The unusual thing is that the landing site of the daylily depends on its color. Yellow or pink flowers need the sun, but dark shades, on the contrary, need shade.
THE DAYLILY BLOOMS FOR ABOUT A MONTH, AND IT CAN GROW IN ONE PLACE FOR ABOUT TEN YEARS.
Next, we identified several medium-sized flowers. These include plants up to one meter in height.
First on the list are Peonies . Peony inflorescences grow up to 25 centimeters in diameter. And what a flavor they have! Just a fairy tale. We all remember peonies in our front gardens. It is a heat-loving plant that easily copes with drought, which is why gardeners love it so much.
Peonies can also be divided into varieties. But in the beginning it should be said that they are herbaceous and shrubby. Herbaceous can grow up to one meter in height, and shrubs – 1.5 – 2 meters. We have more common first grade.
DID YOU KNOW THAT THIS FLOWER HAS MORE THAN 4500 VARIETIES?
Its flowering period varies from one week to three. Most often, it depends on the type of plant.
Next – the well-known Tulip . It blooms in spring and is a perennial bulbous plant. Its height “floats” from 10 to 100 centimeters. Varieties of early tulips can begin their flowering as early as the end of April. But the period depends on the variety of flowers and air temperature. It fluctuates from about one to two weeks.
Red tulips are the undoubted favorites of gardeners. And at the end of the last century, tulips with black petals were grown.
THE PLANT LOVES GOOD, FERTILE SOIL. IT IS ALSO FAIRLY FROST RESISTANT.
Iris is our next medium-sized plant. There is a different set of groups of iris, and the conditions in which they are grown depend on this. Most of all, people involved in flowers love bearded irises. Their difference is in the strip of hairs on the perianth, which is so similar to a small beard.
This plant is quite unpretentious, but very fond of the sun and warmth and well-drained soil. Only then will they delight you with their flowering.
There are also varieties of irises that prefer moist soil rather than warmth. They are called so – marsh irises. They will be useful to you if there is a need to plant beautiful flowers near a pond. Accordingly, their flowering is longer. The height of irises is quite different, depending on the variety.
IRISES GROW UP TO 40 CENTIMETERS, AND SOME CAN REACH UP TO 70
Now let’s talk about those flowers, the height of which reaches only 30-40 centimeters. But that doesn’t mean they love them less.
The first are, of course, Forget -me-nots . Both annual and perennial varieties can be found here. Most often, forget-me-nots grow as a biennial plant, as they lose their attractiveness with the next year.
The height of these flowers does not go beyond 30-40 centimeters. The favorite color of gardeners is blue. But also in the front gardens you can find both white and pink forget-me-nots.
It should be said that this plant is completely unpretentious, but still it is better to plant it in moist soil and a more lit place. In this situation, forget-me-nots will delight you with their beauty for a long time.
Pansies or Wittrock Violet. Previously, not a single flower bed and front garden could do without Pansies, because it was one of the first to bloom in the spring. This wild flowering plant is the progenitor of Wittrock’s Violet. Gardeners love her.
Wittrock violet is a biennial plant and reaches a height of up to 30 centimeters. It is planted in autumn, seeds directly into the open ground. Seedlings appear in the spring of next year, but this flower blooms only from the beginning of the second and right until the end of summer.
PANSIES DO NOT NEED EXCESSIVE WATERING, THEY CAN SAFELY SURVIVE THE HEAT
They can also be fed with mineral fertilizers for better growth.
And the last undersized plant today – Daisies . This is a well-known perennial plant. It is usually grown as a biennial.
It has a small stature and a fairly small flower, but almost all gardeners loved the daisy.
Make sure that there is no stagnant water in your area, because this is all that is needed for this plant to feel great.
However, in any case, daisies need fairly frequent watering and, best of all, mulching. It will also help save them from the cold.
TRY TO REMOVE FADED INFLORESCENCES MORE OFTEN, AND THEN YOU WILL DEFINITELY EXTEND THE FLOWERING OF THE DAISY
Now you are convinced that in order to create a front garden of unprecedented beauty, you do not need any chic varieties or hybrids of flowers. It is enough just to remember those that our grandmothers loved so much. Agree, they are so simple, but how beautiful!
